Full Description

Motor vehicle repair centres can be challenging working environments to control risks generated from vehicle exhausts. In addition to fumes from vehicle exhausts, there are also other hazards from other processes that can prove challenging to manage exposure control from, such as welding, grinding and sanding.

Exhaust fumes are regularly overlooked as a hazard in automotive vehicle repair centres with many small, independent garages opting to leave doors open as the preferred method of ventilation. However, exposure to exhaust fumes can increase the risk of health problems and health effects with research proving that long-term exposure to exhaust fumes can cause profound health implications. Therefore, an auto shop exhaust ventilation system is recommended as the preferred solution

What Do The HSE Recommend?

HSE recommends that a vehicle extraction system is installed to control indoor air pollution and control exposure to diesel exhaust fumes. Automotive extraction systems are typically comprised of a flexible hose, that's connected to an exhaust nozzle to safely capture and remove fumes from the working environment.

In HSE 'HSG187: Control of Diesel Engine Exhaust Emissions (DEEEs) in the workplace’ guidance, it is recommended that engineering controls, such as local exhaust ventilation (LEV) should enclose the exhaust pipe with a capture nozzle, where exhaust fumes are emitted to reduce exposure to DEEEs.

Whilst, In HSE HSG261: Health and Safety in Motor Vehicle Repair and Associated Industries guidance, it recommends that: "LEV is used wherever possible and always in confined locations.”

Garage Fume Extraction Solutions

With such a wide variety of different working processes and contaminants, there’s no one size that fits all. At Auto Extract Systems, we have a number of different vehicle exhaust extraction systems that our P602 LEV system design engineers can help specify and design a comprehensive LEV system that’s tailored to your exact requirements.

At Auto Extract Systems, we have a number of garage fume extraction systems to suit the requirements of your business. We are accustomed to helping all kinds of businesses, such as garages and fire stations, with vehicle exhaust extraction systems.

As part of our Installation Service, we supply and install the highest quality LEV equipment we’ve come across on the market today; that’s why we’re confident in offering a 12-month installations warranty with our installations.

Some of our most common solutions include:

Exhaust Hose Reels

Exhaust Extraction Hose Reels

Exhaust hose reels are a very diverse and comprehensive diesel exhaust extraction system product for the motor vehicle repair industry; as they can be retrofitted in virtually any garage set up.

They provide a convenient vehicle exhaust fume solution when working with stationary vehicles. Exhaust hose reels allow you to provide a clean and trip hazard-free workspace when the local exhaust ventilation (LEV) extraction system isn't being used. Exhaust hose reels use a spring mechanism to help lower and raise the wound hose to and from reel to the exhaust.

We can also supply a motorised hose reel that used a radio controller to lower and raise the hose from the reels drum.

Hose Extraction Arms

Hose extraction arms are ideal for capturing fumes as part a complete vehicle exhaust ventilation system. These have proven to be a very popular and diverse product for our LEV installations as they provide at-source extraction and remove the pollutant from the workplace before it has the opportunity to dissipate into the workplace.

Portable Vehicle Exhaust Extraction Systems

The portable exhaust extraction units are an ideal garage fume extractor system for single bay MOT stations where a comprehensively installed local exhaust ventilation (LEV) system may not be economically or physically practical.

Articulating Boom Arms

Articulating boom arms allow articulation across a 16m working area and have a broad range of applications. Typically, boom swing arms are ideal for use in high-level buildings and those with crane tracks as they can cover a large area of a work bay yet are easily retracted when not in use. Articulated extraction arms provide an ideal solution for the military, plant and agricultural sectors.

Nozzles

We have a wide range of different vehicle exhaust nozzles that can be supplemented with a variety of different rubber nozzles or metal nozzles, or even a Y-piece splitter nozzle for twin exhaust vehicles.

Exhaust Hose

Exhaust Hose

Crush-resistant vehicle exhaust hose is an essential piece of kit in any motor vehicle repair centre as it's used to transport toxic fumes (which contains carbon monoxide) from when vehicle's exhaust pipe through a fume extraction system to the atmosphere. It can also be an essential product for fire station exhaust extraction.

The car exhaust extraction hose has been specifically designed to be extremely flexible and crack resistant, without losing pressure. The flexible exhaust hose is resistant to the chemicals and pollutants in diesel and petrol fumes and can withstand temperatures of up to 170oC, making them ideal for all kinds of vehicle maintenance businesses.

We can also supply high-temperature exhaust hose is also available for large plant vehicles or regeneration processes where the temperature would exceed the capabilities of standard, 170oC exhaust hose temperature.
